Website vs. Blog – What’s best for me?
This is a really good question. One I wish more clients would ask and one I always bring up in a consultation. I basically ask two questions: Will there be frequent updating? Is visitor response capability to your online content important? If the answer to either or both those questions is “yes”, then I suggest a blog. It seems obvious, right? Well here’s where some knowledge of different blog services and what they offer comes in handy. I have checked out all the major blog providers; Blogger, Tumbler, Typepad, WordPress…some are .html based and others are .php, some are fully customizable, some partially. I like to have a consultation first with my clients. I ask them questions about their goals online, their business and the time they have for maintenance to determine what is best. If a client just needs their business profile, images and contact info online I suggest a website. I like websites to be clear and informative but some style and allure can really cinch it. The right logo, graphics and layout can turn plain information into memorable and desireable content that will stick with your viewers.
